From The Post-Star

Warren County District Attorney Kate Hogan got a mention in The New York Times this week as a potential candidate for state attorney general, but Hogan said Wednesday she has no plans to run for the position.

In an article in Tuesday’s Times that discussed former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s decision not to run for governor, Hogan was one of three district attorneys who were being looked at as Republican candidates for attorney general, according to “Republican operatives.”

With Attorney General Andrew Cuomo widely rumored to be a candidate for governor, the race for attorney general could be wide open for both Republicans and Democrats.

Rumors have swirled locally for months that Hogan was a potential candidate for the state’s top prosecutor position.

The Post-Star has asked her about them several times, and she has repeatedly said she had no interest in the job and did not know how the rumors got started. She said she had not seen The New York Times story before a reporter brought it to her attention.

“Right now my focus is on serving as district attorney of Warren County and as president of the state DA’s association,” she said Wednesday. “I’m very happy serving as district attorney and look forward to a third term.”

Hogan won a third term in office in an unopposed election last month.

As president of the district attorney’s association, Hogan said she has had extensive contact with state government leaders in recent months, which she said might explain why some have been pushing her for possible statewide office.

Warren County Republican Committee Chairman Michael Grasso said earlier this year that Hogan has been approached by people within the GOP about a possible run, but that she had not expressed interest.

He called the rumors “persistent rumblings from some of her fans who would think that is a good idea.”

“Kate runs a lot by me and this hasn’t been one of them,” Grasso said in an October e-mail.
